Garmin has unveiled the Garmin Venu 3 smartwatch, which will not only allow you to track physical activity indicators but also analyze the quality of sleep in more detail, as well as improve the efficiency of the recovery process after training. It's also worth noting the device's long battery life, which lasts approximately two weeks on a single charge.
Garmin considers battery life to be a key differentiator. The claimed battery life of the Venu 3 is longer than that of the previous model, the Venu 2, which can work in smartwatch mode for 11 days without needing a recharge. In this regard, the Venu 3 significantly surpasses competitors such as the Apple Watch Series 8 and Samsung Galaxy Watch 6, which must be charged every night to last throughout the day.
The Venu 3 lacks the extensive app ecosystem and optional LTE connectivity found in many other smartwatches. Joe Schrick, vice president of Garmin's fitness segment, believes that the Venu 3 makes up for this shortcoming with its longer battery life.
One of the Venu 3's new features is daytime sleep detection, which automatically records short periods of sleep and incorporates them into the Body Battery report—an indicator of energy levels. This report takes into account factors such as activity, stress, and sleep, providing more detailed information on how specific factors, such as sleep or stress, affect this indicator.
The Venu 3 is the first Garmin watch to support wheelchair mode, in which steps are replaced by pushes, and movement reminders are replaced by weight shift reminders. Garmin has also announced plans to introduce sports apps and workouts specifically designed for wheelchair users.
New features include a larger font size for those with poor vision and audio-guided meditation sessions. During meditation, users will be able to follow voice prompts, set goals, and listen to white noise similar to the sounds of the ocean. Users will also have the option to choose from preset sessions or customize the session to their liking.
The smartwatch features a 1.4-inch AMOLED screen with a resolution of 454 × 454 pixels, protected from damage by durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It supports Bluetooth, ANT+, Wi-Fi, and comes with over 30 pre-installed sports apps. With the Venu 3, you can also track your heart rate throughout the day, determine blood oxygen saturation levels, monitor stress levels, and manage women's health. Additionally, with a microphone and speaker, you can answer calls on a connected smartphone.
Garmin has also introduced the Venu 3S, a more compact version of the watch with a 41 mm diameter and a weight of 40 g (compared to the Venu 3, which has a diameter of 45 mm and weighs 46 g). The battery life of the Venu 3S is up to 10 days.
Both the Garmin Venu 3 and Venu 3S are priced at $449.99.
